Post-Coup Purge Removes 150,000 from Public Life
Following the 2016 coup attempt, Erdoğan used emergency powers to purge 150,000+ people from public sector jobs, imprison 50,000+ and shut down 150+ media outlets. Academics who signed a peace petition were fired en masse.
