Poll Tax — Taxing the Poor the Same as the Rich
The Community Charge ("Poll Tax") replaced rates with a flat per-head tax, meaning a duchess paid the same as her cleaner. The policy was so obviously unjust that it triggered riots across the UK and ultimately ended Thatcher's premiership. Scotland bore it a year earlier and suffered disproportionately.
