Bedroom Tax — Welfare Reform Targeting the Disabled
The "spare room subsidy" cut Housing Benefit for social tenants deemed to have a spare bedroom. The majority of those affected were disabled people who required an extra room for medical equipment or carers. The policy was struck down by the Court of Appeal in 2019 for disability discrimination.
