INF Treaty — Genuine Diplomacy That Helped End the Cold War
Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev signed the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty in 1987, eliminating an entire class of nuclear missiles for the first time in the Cold War and establishing an intrusive mutual verification regime. It marked a genuine, skilfully-negotiated de-escalation that helped bring the Cold War to a peaceful close.
