Bush v. Gore — The Supreme Court Decides an Election
The Supreme Court's 5–4 ruling in Bush v. Gore halted the ongoing Florida vote recount, effectively deciding the 2000 presidential election in Bush's favour by a margin of 537 votes in that state, even though Bush lost the national popular vote by roughly 540,000 votes. The majority opinion took the unusual step of specifying that its reasoning should not be treated as precedent for future cases.
