Drone Killing of Anwar al-Awlaki — An American Citizen Executed Without Trial

Obama personally approved drone strike target lists in weekly "Terror Tuesday" meetings. On 30 September 2011 a US drone killed Anwar al-Awlaki, a US-born cleric accused of al-Qaeda involvement, without any judicial process — the first deliberate US killing of an American citizen since the September 11 attacks with no attempt at capture or trial. Two weeks later a separate strike killed his 16-year-old son, also a US citizen, whom the administration said had not been specifically targeted.
