January 6 — An Attack on the Capitol to Overturn a Lost Election

Trump and his campaign publicly claimed widespread election fraud that courts across the country almost universally rejected, and that his own campaign officials privately acknowledged finding no evidence for. On 6 January 2021 his supporters stormed the US Capitol to stop the certification of Biden's win. Seven deaths were linked to the attack; over 1,400 people were later federally charged and more than 900 convicted. On his first day back in office in January 2025, Trump pardoned all January 6 defendants, including those convicted of violent offences.
