UN Commission of Inquiry Finds Ongoing Crimes Against Humanity

A UN Commission of Inquiry, based on first-hand victim and witness testimony, found the state responsible for crimes against humanity including "extermination, murder, enslavement, torture, imprisonment, rape, forced abortions... persecution... forcible transfer of populations, enforced disappearance... and knowingly causing prolonged starvation." It estimated 80,000–120,000 political prisoners held in kwanliso camps and said the violations "reveal a State that does not have any parallel in the contemporary world," recommending the UN Security Council refer the situation to the International Criminal Court.
