Olenivka POW Camp Killings — 53+ Ukrainian Prisoners Dead

An explosion at a Russian-run prison holding Ukrainian POWs — mostly Azov Regiment soldiers who had surrendered at Azovstal in Mariupol — killed between 53 and 62 prisoners and wounded 75–130 more on 29 July 2022. Russia claimed Ukraine struck its own POWs with a HIMARS rocket; CNN's analysis found this "very likely a fabrication" given the damage pattern. Russia has never allowed international observers or the ICRC access to the site, published a full casualty list, or notified victims' families — the UN disbanded its planned fact-finding mission in January 2023 after being refused access entirely.
