Autumn Budget 2024 — Employer National Insurance Raised
Chancellor Rachel Reeves raised employer National Insurance contributions from 13.8% to 15% in the October 2024 Autumn Budget, while simultaneously lowering the threshold at which employers begin paying NI from £9,100 to £5,000 per employee. The OBR projected the combined effect would raise £25 billion but also slow wage growth. Charities, care providers, and small businesses were particularly hard hit.
