Trump accepted a Boeing 747 valued at roughly $400 million as a personal gift from the government of Qatar, to be refitted as a temporary Air Force One. Trump described Qatar as having offered the jet unprompted; reporting subsequently found his own administration had first approached Qatar to ask about acquiring such an aircraft, contradicting his account. Congressional budget analysts also found part of the aircraft's refit cost had been folded into an unrelated, classified Pentagon nuclear-modernisation budget transfer.
