Judicial Reform Stalls Against PiS-Appointed Judges and a Hostile Presidency
Justice Minister Adam Bodnar introduced reforms in January 2024 to depoliticise the National Council of the Judiciary, and the Sejm passed amendments in April 2024 restoring judicial election of its members. But implementation has been slow and contested by the "neo-judges" appointed under the disputed post-2017 system, and the rule-of-law crisis remains formally unresolved years after Tusk pledged to fix it on taking office.
