Mariupol Theatre Bombed Despite "CHILDREN" Marked in Russian, Visible From the Air

The Mariupol Drama Theatre, sheltering hundreds of civilians during the siege of the city, was bombed on 16 March 2022. Satellite images from two days earlier show the word "ДЕТИ" (children) painted in giant letters on the ground outside the building on both sides — a deliberate signal to aircraft that it was a civilian shelter. Death toll estimates range from at least 12 (Amnesty International's confirmed minimum) to as many as 600 (Associated Press); Mariupol City Council estimated roughly 300. Both the OSCE and Amnesty International classified the strike as a war crime.
